Accessories for TcpO2

All Perimed TcpO2 instruments come equipped with everything you need to carry measurements. Over time, you may need to replace electrodes or order more cleaning products, you will find what you need here, including replacement electrodes, fixation rings, contact liquid, and kits for electrode maintenance — critical for continued robust measurement.

Replacing old electrodes

To ensure accurate, safe, and reliable measurements in clinical assessment or study, we recommend you replace your TcpO2 electrodes when the lifetime warranty expires. At this point, normal wear and tear may cause electrodes to degrade and measurement robustness can no longer be guaranteed.

TcpO2 electrode

Clark-type electrodes are commonly used for conducting TcpO2 measurements. The electrode heats the skin, to increase local blood flow and enhance oxygen diffusion through the skin. The oxygen permeates the sensor’s membrane and reacts with the internal electrolyte solution. The change in pH in the electrolyte reflects the local concentration of oxygen at the measurement site. Our TcpO2 instruments are compatible with Clark-type E5250 electrodes manufactured by our partner Radiometer.

Membrane maintenance kits

TcpO2 electrodes are covered by a thin, permeable membrane that controls the rate of gas diffusion to the sensor. During use, a layer of silver oxide builds up, which you should remove by cleaning the head and changing the membrane according to the manufacturer’s guidelines. Cleaning and proper maintenance help to extend the functional lifespan of the sensor and ensure robust consistent measurements, by avoiding:

  • Measurement drift — due to wear, stretching, or contamination from skin oils and other substances.
  • Underestimated oxygen levels — the electrode’s sensitivity depends on a clean and intact membrane. Any damage or contamination can hinder oxygen diffusion.
  • Inconsistent readings — a damaged or old membrane may lead to uneven oxygen diffusion across the sensor.
  • Component exposure — proper maintenance helps to protect the electrode’s internal components from exposure to contaminants.

Fixation rings and contact liquid

Our single-use, self-adhesive fixation rings secure compatible TcpO2 electrodes to the skin at the measurement site to ensure robust measurements. The ring prevents gas leakage and adheres well to curved areas like fingers and toes. A few drops of contact liquid in the ring maintain a strong connection between the skin and the electrode, while the ring is specifically designed to lock the electrode head in place.

You can order fixation rings together with contact liquid or as separate items.

To help correlate TcpO2 results with measurement sites, we color-code our instruments, electrodes, user interface, and generated report. Cleaning and natural wear and tear may cause the color strips to peel over time. To maintain ease of data interpretation, we recommend you order a color pack when needed.
